After much support from Bristol Bay and others across the State and Nation, Congresswoman Mary Peltola introduced the Bristol Bay Protection Act (H.R. 8193). The Bill aims to “codify” into law the finalized EPA Clean Water Act protections for Bristol Bay. If passed, this bill would moot the lawsuits filed by the Pebble Limited Partnership and the State of Alaska that seek to overturn EPA’s final determination. While the bill doesn’t address the other active mining claims outside of the Pebble-deposit, if passed it would be an additional layer of protection from the Pebble Mine.
